Rag Doll has dedicated a life to performance art centric music, integrating conceptual body art with varying styles of industrial adjacent genres A transgressive figure in the UK body art scene, an attraction of the weird, wonderful, and sometimes grotesque performance art.
“Acts of bodily harm are double-pronged - blood as a magickal conduit for ritual, and blood as transgression. Polite society tells you the world is pretty, flowers and butterflies. But everyone knows it’s not. So bleeding, harming, screaming obscenities and wounding myself is me howling out ‘You think this is bad? At least I'll survive this. I don't talk about where my music - and especially the art attached to it (performance or otherwise) - comes from beyond being a practising 'Occultist' or as someone who was a victim of SA. Since I was a pre-teen, when I first started writing literature, music, and making surreal imagery? I have been influenced by my diagnosis of schizoaffective disorder. I am - for all intents and purposes - well and 'recovered', though such things never actually stay static in their place. Thus, I'm not actually ever going to be okay. My brain is functionally different in a way that differs (quite drastically) from the usual neurodivergence. I suffer with mania, hallucinatory experiences of all five senses, an overlapping of timeframes in periods of severe brain fog, and I have (in the past) been extremely delusional on a clinical level and not merely what is often considered 'religious psychosis' which is very easy for many to slip into as well. My schizophrenic adjacent diagnosis has influenced not only the way I act, the way I talk (accentuation, enunciation and phrasing), and the way I am perceived but it has greatly influenced my artistic endeavours. The closest I've ever been to fully artistically realising a representation of the experience of psychosis (that is individualistically my own experience) is through Art - this project. There are many allusions to my actual mental health struggles throughout the lyricism, the specific pieces I've done as performance art, and the way in which I've interacted within my own pieces. The splitting of a person into one that is perceived as 'many' - not a split personality but a splitting of your perception of me and my perception of everything - is something I've written about and performed. This illness may one day sadly take my life - and not in the sense of suicidality but through various neurological issues it can cause that are severe and life threatening. Yet, what can I do yet persist the Flesh upon which I was wrought? "I sleep with ghosts at night They swirl my grey matter Tell me I'm on the right track as I peel back my skin as far as it'll go"
Rag Doll have as well promoted a large number of successful shows over the UK.
